Testimonials & Clients

The People:

Ari Shapiro, Board Member / Events Committee – ASMP Seattle/Northwest, Working with Maria was fantastic.  We expected her to be an expert in her field (which she delivered on 100%), but she goes above and beyond – staying current with trends and connecting with the guests at our event on both a personal and professional level.  Our membership is better for having attended and we look forward to working with her again in the future!

Melvin Harper Photography, Grad Student from Academy of Art University, Hello Maria, just a short email to say hello.  I relocated to NYC and I am now implementing everything you taught us, it has been invaluable, in this intimidating city.  Just wanted to say thank you, and I will let you know how it all goes.

Jackie Connely , CAPIC Vancouver VP Programming, Maria truly is the ‘nuts and bolts’ consultant when it comes to the inner workings of dealing with clients and  marketing a creative portfolio. For her day-long workshop to our members she was concise, she gave clear actions members could take away and implement into their sales & marketing plans immediately, and gave both overview suggestions as well as more detailed answers to our members specific situations. Thank you Maria!

David Veal, Graphic Artists Guild Teleclass Chair, Thank you for a wonderful tele-class in February this year. You were great and the reviews from our attendees were extremely positive. Providing the simple outline that we were able to place on our Graphic Artists Guild letterhead helped everyone stay focused. The way you went through the material made sense and had a good pace for on an online workshop. I especially enjoyed the questions at the end of the tele-class from attendees around the country. We hope to have you present a new tele-class again next year.

Debbie Vyskocil, photographer,  Maria always has the latest information on the present and future of the advertising industry. Over the past 17 years, in private consultations to large lectures, I walk away with the most cutting edge information and the knowledge of how to apply it to my business. She will create her programs in a way that most benefits your group.

Nate Mark, DesignMarks,  Maria, Thank you so very, very much for your insightful presentation to C3/ASMP the other night. As long as I have been in this business (don’t ask) we have all struggled with the same problems – just in different (and ever-changing) climates. When I first opened my office, I had two small rooms, enough equipment to do the work, and a phone. After a few quiet weeks I realized if I didn’t call out that only my Mom would be calling in. So, over the years I have devised plan after plan, and system after system, to get my name out there and keep the phone ringing. As you know that is not an easy, nor a simple, project. Yet it needs to be worked on – constantly – if there is no work, if you’re swamped, or somewhere in between. Over the years I’ve told this to my staff and presented it to organizations, but I must say never as effectively as your presentation the other night. Kudos. My only hope is that it will stick in everyone’s mind. Again, thank you so very much.

Justin Carroll, graphic designer, Thank you for presenting Expanding Your Client Base as part of AIGA/La’s Business Matters series. Your lively presentation was thoughtful, insightful and, in the words of one attendee …humanized the cold world of sales and client relationships. In the words of another attendee, who actually drove all the way down from San Francisco specifically for the event: “The workshop itself gelled much of what we already knew as a micro-sized brand communications and design firm, but what Maria did was to bring immediate industry relevance to the tactics and shed light on pitfalls of traditional sales tactics as applied to the graphics design sales. Plus, Maria’s energy-driven, humorous presentation just made the workshop at the end of a long drive lively, engaging, and worthwhile….” Couldn’t have put it better ourselves.

Ron Gould, ASMP Chicago Midwest, Last Tuesday, Maria spoke for the third time in 5 years to the ASMP Chicago/Midwest chapter. As always her grasp of the industry as it is, and where it’s going is insightful. She captures the future in ways you can use today to anticipate and plan for tomorrow. Maria will take your theme and expand it fit the group she’s speaking too.

Anne Britt, Meese Illustrasjon & Design for Grafill, It´s the third time we invited Maria to the Norwegian capitol, Oslo, to share her knowledge with Norwegian illustrators. Needless then to say that we love her seminars, but I say it anyway; we love her, we need her! She guides us through the part of an illustrator’s business that scares most of us, yet she manages within three-four hours to get us to think ‘I can do it!’ For this we are very grateful. The Norwegian board of illustrators encourages everyone to listen to Maria’s workshops; you just can’t go wrong with her.

Stefan Bucher, Creative Director / 344 Design, I tend to be interested in, but suspicious of business advice and people who dispense it. But I’ve found Maria’s writing as well as her presentations to be immediately and powerfully useful to an almost embarrassing degree. I wish I could afford her counseling full-time.

Andy Batt, Andy Batt Studio, I’ve read her book but seeing Maria live was incredibly valuable. The next day I put her techniques and scripts to work right away and out together one of the best bids I’ve ever done. Maria Piscopo is one of the best photo marketing consultants in the business. Her years of expertise as a teacher, photo rep and consultant give her the insight and power to move you and your business forward, to where you want to succeed. I strongly endorse Maria.

Heather Price, Illustrations,  Maria’s book is the best and most complete “Guide” I’ve come across in years. I am rejuvenating a portfolio and resuscitating a career. Returning to my first love… freelance illustration… after a few years away raising family etc. I need all the help and encouragement I can find. Your book has given me this. Thanks again for the straight forward, to the point tips and for this amazing guide. Makes me feel like “it’s my turn” once again to be in demand as an illustrator and that my silent guide will show me how…
